Impasse on Doha Round
Business Line 22nd November 2007
The meeting at Geneva fails to break the impasse in achieving multilateral global trade among WTO’s member-countries.
The stand of the rich economies on the issue of conceding more ground on industrial tariffs and the developing nations’ firm stand on rich economies lowering their farm barriers are apparent impediments. Their adamant attitude is not conducive for achieving multilateral global trade. It will remain a mirage.
Till the time the member-countries strike harmony on the WTO’s doctrine and stop looking at their own individual interest, Dohas and Cancuns will fail in their efforts to break the deadlock and achieve the desired results
